Fish Belize With Tarpon Caye Lodge
fishing for permit, tarpon, and bonefish in one of the least pressured fisheries in the Caribbean.
Not every angler who visits Belize carries a fly rod. At Tarpon Caye Lodge, conventional anglers experience the same productive flats, protected lagoons, and mangrove shorelines that make southern Belize one of the Caribbean's premier inshore fisheries.
Located on a private island about 15 miles off the coast of Placencia, Tarpon Caye Lodge offers immediate access to permit, tarpon, bonefish, and a variety of other saltwater species without the long runs common to mainland operations. The tides dictate the day's plan. Our guides take it from there, creating opportunities throughout the day for anglers who want to fish as hard or as casually as they choose.
Whether you're an experienced saltwater angler or simply looking to experience Belize's famous flats with conventional tackle, our guided and DIY fishing packages provide a relaxed, authentic way to explore one of the Caribbean's most productive inshore fisheries.
Each day begins with breakfast overlooking the Caribbean as the guides prepare the skiffs for another day on the water. After a quick conversation about the day's plan, it's only a short ride from the dock before the fishing begins.
The schedule is structured, but never rigid. Fish with your guide until the last cast, spend the afternoon exploring the nearby flats on your own, or head back to the lodge whenever you're ready. Some guests want to fish every available minute. Others are just as happy slowing down to enjoy the island, the scenery, and the pace of life that comes with it.
Back at the lodge, the experience is yours to shape. Grab a rod and wade the flat behind your cabin, relax in a hammock with a cold drink, or join the rest of the guests for stories on the deck before dinner. When the day winds down, retreat to your own private cabin or linger a little longer under the stars. However you choose to spend your time here, there's never any pressure to follow someone else's schedule.
How We Fish Belize
Fishing the flats around Tarpon Caye doesn't require a fly rod. Using light spinning tackle, anglers can sight cast to many of the same permit, tarpon, and bonefish our fly fishermen pursue. The skiff, the water, and the approach remain largely the same.
Our guides pole shallow flats, work mangrove shorelines, and explore the channels and lagoons in search of fish. When an opportunity presents itself, conventional tackle allows anglers to make quick, accurate casts without years of fly fishing experience.
It's an approachable way to experience Belize's flats fishery, whether you're an experienced conventional angler, new to saltwater fishing, or traveling with a group of fly fishermen. You don't have to fly fish to fish Tarpon Caye.
