Meet Charles Leslie Sr
Manager & Legendary Belezian Guide
Your host at Tarpon Caye Lodge is Charles Leslie Sr. Charlie is from the village of Placencia in the Stan Creek District of Belize. Guiding by age nineteen, he has over 30 years of experience fishing the waters of Belize and is considered one of the most knowledgeable and respected guides in the country.
Charlie was introduced to fly fishing in the 70’s by Lefty Kreh and is now a master of casting and fly presentation to Permit, Tarpon and Bonefish. Charlie will organize your fishing days based on the tides, weather, migratory pattens and other conditions to ensure that you have the best opportunities to land the fish of a lifetime.
Charlie recognizes that sport fishing and eco-tourism are key to Belize’s future and as such he is a responsible steward of the environment and the fishery. He has been managing Tarpon Caye lodge for almost 20 years and will ensure that your stay is comfortable, the food is tasty and your lines are tight!
Our staff of experienced and knowledgeable guides are committed to making sure you get the most out of your Belize fishing adventure. They are all Belizean natives who grew up on the water and have an uncanny ability to spot hard to see fish. They are also casting and presentation experts. If desired, our guides will work with you so you leave the island with improved casting ability and an understanding of how to present your fly in the most life-like manner.
All our guides are managed by Charles Leslie Sr. who organizes the fishing day based on the tides and his local understanding of which flats are producing and at what time. Charlie’s son Marlon Leslie is one of our top guides and learned everything he knows from years of fishing with his dad. Another long-time Tarpon Caye Lodge guide is Ernesto Garcia. Ernesto is a terrific guide as well as a gentleman, and it is a pleasure to spend a day on the water with him.
